After nearly 25 years in the nursing field and training hundreds of health care professionals, I've found there are 5 qualities in most of my successful candidates that stand out and make them the best CNA's.
Generations offers not just CNA refresher course training for recertifying the CNA license but also an introductory course to the field.
Here are 5 Reasons to begin your healthcare career online with CNA training.
1. They Desire to Care for People.
If you are a nurturer at heart; if you enjoy making someone feel comfortable; if you naturally reach to help someone who is struggling with eating, walking, putting on a sweater - then you have that quality.
2. They are Fascinated By Science
You are curious about how strokes affect the opposite side of the body from the injury in the brain. You want to understand the interaction of insulin and sugar in diabetes or the mechanism of Alzheimer’s to destroy memory and logic.
3. They enjoy being around older people.
Perhaps it was a beloved grandma, a spunky great aunt, or a grandpa that always made you laugh. You feel at ease visiting with folks in their 70’s, 80’s or beyond. You seem to connect with them and appreciate them. Most CNA’s work with these incredible souls.
4. They Prefer an Active Job rather than a Desk Job.
This is a very physical career. You will be on your feet, pulling, pushing, (NOT LIFTING!), reaching, dressing, bending, squatting, etc all day. Time goes fast when you are busy and having fun.
5. They Are Ready to Get Started in the Healthcare Field in Any Capacity
If you are motivated and to improve your career prospects and not afraid to put the work in to succeed, becoming a CNA is a great first step to try Healthcare with a minimum investment. From CNA, you can go on into any other healthcare discipline: nursing, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, physician, psychiatrist, etc. But all of these career paths benefit from a foundation of CNA.
You will notice that “money” did not make the list. CNA pay is not the big bucks, but pays well above minimum wage. You can always move up the pay scale by getting more training and education.
However, CNA work is rewarding to the soul.
