The Art of CNA & Caregiving

Preparation courses for CNA state exams and caregiving positions.

Welcome to Generations!

Whether you're involved in caregiving as a professional, volunteer family member, or considering a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Generations, founded by a registered nurse and CNA instructor, can help prep you for the state exams and these fulfilling careers.

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) provide intimate, hands-on healthcare to patients in medical settings. In order to become a CNA, you must pass the Competency exam administered by the state. If you're looking to join the health care industry as a CNA or looking to retake the state exams, our CNA courses, written by a registered nurse and CNA instructor, can help you prepare for these exams!

As a long term care nurse and CNA instructor I am well aware of the need for CNAs that provide loving, gentle, and compassionate care. Unfortunately, once their certification has lapsed, many excellent CNAs do not complete re-certification, possibly due to the lengthy and sometimes very challenging re-certification process. I highly recommend this valuable resource (generationscaregiving.com) for any CNA wanting to re-certify, study for the state exam, or to prepare to work as a CNA. Terri has included a vast array of topics ranging from hands on skills, to resident rights and many pearls of wisdom that come from her experience.

I always thought after working in the field for so many years I would never forget any of the training I had received. However, after reading through this refresher I realized there were many things that I had forgotten. This refresher was much needed and helped prepare me to better serve patients.

Caregiving can take many forms. Whether you're a professional caregiver or simply helping older, sick, or disabled family members or friends, caregiving demands can be high and often times exhausting for the caregiver. If you're currently in this role or simply planning ahead, our caregiving course will help you through the unknown and provide you with guidance so you can become a confident caregiver to your loved ones.

The course is well written and easy to understand. Giving solid common sense advice on how to take care of the patient by remembering that they are a person, not a job.

Always a Mama and Daddy’s girl, I found myself taking care of my Dad (COPD and Parkinson’s) and my Mama, an Alzheimer’s victim also suffering PHN as a result of Shingles. Everything from changing O2 tanks to changing Depends—and no “how-to” book. I was a History major and teacher for 35 years, but woefully ill- prepared to lift and bathe, to dispense meds and deal with wound care. And even less prepared to deal with Alzheimer’s. I so wish I had known more about caregiving. It would have saved many tears, mine and my Mama’s.

About

Generations was founded by Terri Richards, a registered nurse and CNA instructor. Designed for anyone who is involved with caregiving or considering a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Generations provides students with the information, techniques, and rationale for safe care giving.

Generations started with just the CNA Refresher Course for those who were coming back to CNA work after a gap of at least two years and were required to take the state exam again. The course was designed in an easy-to-understand format that is entertaining as well as informative.

After the Generations CNA Refresher Course was released, our founder soon realized many friends who suddenly became caregivers of parents or other family members, and were having to navigate their new role without proper training.

About Terri Richards

Terri Richards, a registered nurse since 1995, started her career on a surgical floor of her local hospital working the 12 hour night shift. Throughout the years, she has worked in case management, long term care, and home care. For 20 years, she also ran her own business specializing in general foot care and pedicures for geriatric clients.

In 2003, she began teaching CNA and loved it from the start. She has now placed her passion on paper by offering these downloadable preparation courses for new or returning health care professionals and she couldn't be more excited.
